Observation

3)c)d)e) A child left the licensed portable and was briefly out of visual and auditory range of the staff this afternoon. The licensor notified the staff that the child had walked out unaccompanied, and the staff found the child near the back door of the school. 3)c)d)e) This afternoon there were 4 children outside of the portable without any of the staff providing supervision. One of the children's parents was with them, but staff were not positioned to be able to see the children, were not attending to the children to be aware of what they were doing, or available to promptly assist or redirect if needed. 5)b) When staff brought children into the gymnasium this afternoon they did not have the door chime sensor to allow them to hear when doors were opened to prevent children from leaving unsupervised. 5)c)vii) When the licensor arrived to the program today, several children were observed running out to play on the climbing structure on the playground. The staff person responsible to supervise went to the door to the school and was allowing a few other children to go inside to get a drink of water, one by one. The children on the climbing structure continued to play as the staff person monitored the children inside the building from the open door. The climbing structure is quite a distance from the building across the blacktop, and is not easily supervised if a staff person is attending to children inside the building. It would be too far for the staff person to respond immediately if there were an accident. The staff person was not providing active supervision to the children who were playing on the climbing structure at this time.
